Historical Society's History

 

June 26th 2005 1st Historical Society Meeting is held and the volunteer board positions are accepted.  President Nels Nord, Vice President Don Duncan, Treasurer Ron Chelsvig and Secretary Michele Kalsem.

 

October 2005 Historical Society Web site launched

 

November 2005 Historical Society creates a mission statement. To engage the Community of Huxley, Iowa in the preservation, education, and celebration of our heritage and ancestry.  To preserve for research and education, the artifacts, information, and verbal histories about the lives of the people of Huxley from its pioneer origins to the present day and into our future. December 2005 Treasury balance $72.66

 

March 2006 Official Corporation is established.

 

April 2006 Palestine Fire truck was received into our collections Bud’s Auto donated repairs.

 

May 2006 1st edition Historical DVD was produced.

 

June 2006 Ballard Cemetery was cleaned up.

 

July 2006 Ballard Cemetery was added to the Pioneer Cemetery list for Iowa.

 

August 2006 Paul Sandeve donated to collections a painting by Mable Wee that had hung in the Fjord Restaurant. 

 

September 2006 Historical Society wins 2nd place with our float entry in Prairie Fest Parade.

 

November 2006 1st of the original board resigns.  Ron Chelsvig resigns and Scot Petersen is elected to fill the vacancy of treasurer.

 

December 2006 Treasury balance $996.26

 

January 2007 1st annual potluck meeting was held at Council Chambers 18 voting members with additional family and friends attended.

 

March 2007 Historical Society is notified by the state of the official tax exempt status.

 

June 2007 Erickson’s recovered and donated the buffet table from the Fjord restaurant.  Lyle martin donated the repairs needed.

 

July 2007 John Kalsem donated information and items to our collection of the Huxley Horse shows.

 

September 2007 Historical Society wins 2nd place with our float entry in Prairie Fest parade again.

 

December 2007 Treasury balance $3762.37

 

February 2008 Annual meeting and potluck at Nord Kalsem Park _22_ members present.

 

 

Meetings will normally be held monthly.
